FREE CCSF Parenting Class with Nancy Gapasin Gnass
City College San Francisco (CCSF) Child Development (CDEV) Non-Credit Adult Education
In Person Classes, Room 173, Mission Campus
Parents and Toddlers 15+ months CDEV 8100 (M, W or Th 9:10 mornings) 
and Parents and Infants 7-15 months (newborns are also welcome) CDEV 8003 (W or Th 12:40 afternoons)

- Want to learn and talk about your child's development and learn about best parenting practices while childrearing during the Pandemic and beyond?


Join our parenting class at City College SF with Nancy Gapasin Gnass. This is a noncredit Adult Education class based in the Mission District City College campus through the Child Development Department (CDEV).  The In-Person (IRL)  classes are happening now.  

 

This is a unique opportunity to meet and gather with other parents during this pandemic in-person. Students have found a supportive community in these classes during these isolating times. Participants learn together, discuss their concerns, share questions and experiences in a class led by City College Child Development Instructor, Nancy Gapasin Gnass (ngnass@ccsf.edu).

 

Enrollment is ongoing all semester,  free and open to SF and California residents. You must apply as a student of CCSF to get an ID.  Show up to the classroom to enroll with Nancy.

Raising Grateful Children and Squashing Materialism

There is the old adage, "you can't give your child something you don't have yourself."  If we want grateful children, we'll have to model gratitude first.  "Gratitude is more than behavior-- it is an internal experience... of NOTICE-THINK-FEEL-DO."  Let's try to be mindful of this, for the sake of our children. What Parents Need to Understand About Gratitude On the flip side of gratitude is materialism. Understanding why kids want things and what to do about it is helpful. In this season of buy-buy-buy, consider alternatives to obtaining things by focusing on what matters in life. Building Your Family Culture

The family culture has the most influence on your children, even above peer, school and community culture. Culture is formed by their value system, and how they are practiced through rituals.  This week we'll take a step back and look at what is driving your rituals, by examining your background, and value system. The beginning of this article is repetitive of what we covered last week, but continue  to read to the end on implementation. How To Build A Family Culture
